I’ll start with the Zoo, that’s seems like a nice place to start.

So, on the Saturday before my surgery, I was flipping through the channels when I happen to come across a local news report on fun things to do this summer, on the cheap. I saw that the Cincinnati Zoo was going to be holding a half price day on Sunday, so I immediately ran up to Erica’s room to see if she wanted to go. So just like that, we went to the zoo.

It’d been a long long time since I had last gone to the Zoo. I’m pretty sure that the last time was in eighth grade for a field trip, for now apparent reason. Now, we got to see some pretty cool stuff, my favorites of course being the Red Panda and the Otter because of sheer cuteness. The other exhibits were good, but everything was so busy that getting some solid alone time in front of any exhibit proved difficult. But, sis and I both got some interesting pictures (mine) and it was a great way to spend the afternoon before my proceeder. (Yeah, I haven’t shut up about that)

So when I got home, I went over to my mother’s, where I spent the night so she could take me to my appointment. Of course, I had to freak out about not being able to eat for 12 hours. Sure, I went to bed for most of it, but once you tell my stomach that it can’t eat, it wants to do nothing but. SO, after watching a few movies I managed to score some sleep, something I didn’t figure I would be able to do.

So the next morning, I woke up and couldn’t brush my teeth (no water or food for 12 hours) which was a little unsettling. I didn’t shower either, and looking back, I’m not sure why. Anyway, we arrived half an hour early, only to find they were ready for me in a manner of minutes. Sort of odd, considering medical facilities are pretty well known for making you wait. An unusually hot assistant walked out and called my name and directed me to my room, which was much smaller than I expected. I’m not sure why, but I just assumed I wouldn’t be having my surgery in the same room I would have a normal check-up in. The hot assistant then placed the nitrous oxide apparatus on my face, which I found both annoying, and completely useless. Mom said it was to calm me down, but since it didn’t, and they were going to be giving me an anesthetic anyway, I didn’t see the purpose other than an unneeded cost.

It was then when hot nurse left and my doctor came in. Apart from his fake tan, he seems like a really good guy. He asked me a few bullshit questions, (how’my doin’ and if I play any sports) all while flipping through my charts and then giving me my shot. Another women then walked in to my room, and started applying straps around my arms. This was not only unsettling, but made even worse by the fact that she ignored me. I said hello, expected her to at least acknowledge me, but she just continued to work the straps around my arms. It was only about half a minute for I was under.

After that, things were a little hazy. I remembered waking up the car only once, and asking what was up. My mother insists that not only did I walk out of the recover room myself, but I climbed in the car and wouldn’t shut up: asking every five minutes where we were, and ignoring my orders to be lying down. I then (still not conscience yet) got to mom’s, took off my shoes, gave her my insurance card, got dressed and went to bed, where I regained conciseness and my memory comes back into place. I woke up with my mouth full of gauze, and a strange feeling of haze. Again, I was lying in bed, and needed the gauze to come out, now. So mom pulls it out, puts a new one in, and I again fall asleep.

It was a few hours of waking up, changing gauze and crashing again before I finally was able to maintain myself for a while. I took that opportunity to eat half a vanilla pudding (which I never want again) which I choked down as best I could. I conquered one pain pill. It wasn’t until my second one when things got interesting. Jello was my second time around, followed by a cup of water. I drank only a few sips, and quickly asked my mother to hand me the tiny trash can. In on epic movement, I leaned down and blew an epic honk. It was around seven or eight heaves when I finally calmed down and felt around 75% better.

So after a good bath and a good cry, and I updated my Twitter and called everyone to make sure I was alright. After that my evening was filled with attempting to eat as much as I could (half of a muffin, and some more pudding) and dozing off for an amazing seven hours of sleep. I awoke to find no swelling or bruising, which I was very happy to hear about. Then, in a fit of amazement, I not only ate an entire solid chocolate muffin for breakfast, but an Arby’s junior for lunch, and even a little bit of Famous Dave’s for dinner. I’m pretty happy that I’m eating solid foods on day two. I don’t really have any measurement of if that’s good I’m doing, but I seem to being doing pretty well. And with only a few pills a day (both for pain, and my antibiotic) I’m doin’ pretty well!
