My Day, in Logos
So a few weeks ago, I was cruising around del.icio.us, when I saw this post. While I’ve seen stuff like this before, the visual mash-up of what the author did was cool enough, that I thought I’d replicate the idea for a day in my life.
10:00(ish) AM

So we start off in the morning, where I walk into my bathroom to take a shower, and am greeted with an array of products that I use daily, and some not so much. I do the usual tooth brushing and body scrubbing. I wasn’t really aware of how imprinted these brands are in my head until I did this section without even getting up from my desk. I even knew which ones were owned by P&G and which by Unilever.
10:30 AM

So then I dry off and get dressed for the day. I have a pretty good size choice of t-shirts to choose from, but I always side with my Threadless if possible, and usually just pick up the cleanest pair of shorts I have near me. Shoes, however, are more times than not Converse, high and black.
11:00 AM

So it seems like the bulk of my exposure to brands are during the morning hours, when I’m most seeking out specific things in my day. When I wake up, I’m seeking to get clean, and soon seeking to get breakfast. I’m more decisive, and know what I want, versus the evening, when I tend to roll with the punches, and let my eyes do the picking for what it is I choose and do. Here I’m eating breakfast, and starting to listen to music.
Noon

Around noon is when I usually first sit down on the computer. I’m on throughout the day, checking a few sites, but the bulk of my internet time is in the morning. I catch up on last night’s tweets, what’s new on Facebook, and usually see what’s happening on the Defenders of the Hate. By this point, I’m jamming pretty loud to my tunes as well.
3:00 PM

Ok, so the I grab my phone, and call up some of my friends to go disc golfing. (Very “Lazy Sunday“) Once we figure out who all’s going, I grab my portable electronics for us to jam all the way to the park, where we break out our discs and hop-to. I like to spend a portion of my day outside, and the park is a great place to limit the distraction of brands.
5:00 PM

Then after a few 9s of disc golf, we head back to Cooper’s place to destroy a little C’s pizza, and some more Dew. We lounge around, and listen to music. Cooper is pretty big into sports, and is a huge UK fan, which means that I can’t go to his house without seeing a giant Wildcat somewhere around the place. I always get mad too, because the music I listen to over there doesn’t get scrobbled.
6:00 PM

Then I return home, for the second biggest chunk of time I spend on the computer. Having just spent some time with friends, I like to blog a little, and get some thoughts down. Because I run multiple blogs, I use a few different formats, and do a lot of jumping around from site to site composing my posts. I like to leave something relaxing or funny on too, like a nice podcast.
7:00 PM

Finally, the night winds down with some microwaved dinner I make, and watching something on the tube with my sister. We watch an episode or two of whatever we have DVR’d, and then a good movie. The duration of our media viewing is based on what day of the week it is, and how early one of us has to be up the next day.
10:00PM

After that, I’m good and tired, and usually shuffle off to my room to lower the lights, and make one final run on the computer, finishing off whatever’s left in my Google Reader and Gmail, and talking to my brother and sis to share our days and what we’ve gathered from the day’s internet. By this time, I’m usually ready to log off and catch some Zs
2:30 AM

But of course I never do, because I end up staying up until three in the morning playing some pointless game or watching a TV show I downloaded, and slamming three or four peanut butter sandwiches. This also means that I go to bed around four, which would explain why the next day, for me, starts at eleven in the afternoon.
And that’s it, a day of brands in the life of me, Bradley Garwood
Also, a happy birthday to my brother Ryan, who one year older as the of the 31st.
